Additonal Fresh Water Propelled by Government

A new fresh water supply program other than current waterworks is being considered by the government.
The ruling National Congress for New Politics (NCNP) on September 23 announced that they are going to build a new water reservoir on the upper Han River to supply fresh water for major cities.
However it will raise a lot of controversy concerning the expense of constructing a new dam and additional pipes to each household.
President Kim Dae Jung in a regular policy briefing at the Blue House(Chong Wa Dae) said, 'Major streams around big cities such as the Han River and Nakdong River have been seriously polluted, so instead of spending vast amounts of money for purifying the water, it would be wiser to construct a new reservoir.'
The NCNP is considering placing 5 or 6 small dams upriver from the existing Paldang Dam for metropolitan use. NCNP's assemblyman Kim Won Kil predicted, 'The government has been wasting more than 14 billion dollars to clean the water since 1993 only to make the quality worse, and that is why we need something new.'
