283 Representatives Received Citations

Seoul district court announced on September 23 that it issued a writ of subpoena to 283 representatives to attend court by the morning of September 29. On July 31, Citizen's Coalition for Economic Justice (CCEJ) sued 283 representatives for crippling the operation of the National Assembly.
The court said, 'If Representatives do not attend the court lawyers can substitute for them. If they do not answer the summons at all, they will be considered to abandon the case.'
'The matter whether or not representatives are responsible for crippled operation of assembly should be scrutinized legally. Therefore, if the representatives offer no defence and abandon the suit, the accuser cannot win the suit without any consideration. We plan to study foreign case law because this suit has no precedent in Korean history.', added the court.
