Big Companies Will Raise Age Limits For New Employees
Age limits for entry level employees of big companies will be raised or in some cases abolished. The Korea Employers Federation (KEF) decided today that big companies which are members of the KEF would ease age restrictions for new employees from the end of this year to a future time when the economy has sufficiently recovered.
This reflects the changing nature of the Korean job market since the economic crisis. In Korea, many companies have restrictions on the age limit of new employees usually they must be under 27 or 28 years of age.
An official from the KEF explained, ' Currently most companies can not afford to recruit new employees due to the severe recession. Accordingly, young people who have just graduated from school are not being hired. To mitigate this situation, the KEF decided to raise the age limit for an indefinite period.
