NCNP to Proceed With Economic Hearings RegardlessThe ruling National Congress for New Politics(NCNP) party will proceed with economic hearings next week despite the absence of of the opposition party's participation.
The NCNP announced that it will investigate the use of political money during the past regime at the economic hearings as well as the investigation of persons related to the economic failure of 1997.
Accordingly, there is a possibility that the hearings will lead to an investigation by prosecutors which could ultimately result in arrests and prison sentences.
Regarding the ruling party's plans, the opposition Grand National Party(GNP) is strongly protesting, 'The party will not attend the hearings so the ruling party will have to proceed with the hearings alone.'
Meanwhile, the United Liberal Democrats(ULD) insisted that the hearings have to be held with both the ruling and opposition parties participating.
