Kimpo Plans to Build Rice History Museum

A museum dedicated to the history of rice will be constructed in Kimpo, Kyonggi Province by 2001, city officials said on April 13.
To highlight Kimpo rice, famous for its good taste, and to attract tourists, Kimpo is planning on building a two story museum displaying Korea's 5,000 year history of rice production.
The new building will be located in the Komak-ri sculpture park. The museum's construction is scheduled to commence next March and with the opening scheduled for April 1, 2001, the 3rd anniversary of Kimpo's elevation to city status.
Three hundred fifty photos and prints depicting the history of rice will be displayed on the first floor along with 150 relic farm implements of 70 types.
On the second floor 38 farm machines and the audiovisual room will be located.
Kimpo is planning to hold an annual 'Kimpo rice festival' including 'Miss Rice contest' in September.
