As UN Leader, Han Will Accept NobelForeign Minister Han Seung-soo will accept the Nobel Peace Prize this year on behalf of the United Nations in his capacity as the chairman of the UN General Assembly.
The United Nations said Wednesday that it had decided to dispatch Mr. Han to the award ceremony.
The Nobel Committee selected UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and the United Nations as this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureates.
Mr. Han will receive the prize in Norway in December along with Mr. Annan.
While Mr. Han is not receiving the award in his own right, he will be the second Korean to be handed a Nobel Peace Prize. President Kim Dae-jung won the award last year for his efforts to reconcile the two Koreas.
