&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Train stops off limits to smoking

I use the train to go to work every morning. Most of the train stations are outdoors, unlike the subway, but the stops are still designated as nonsmoking areas.

If you smoke, it is a violation and you are subject to a fine.

But every day it is very easy to see people smoking. Smokers even carry their cigarettes into underground passages without any thought. The area does not have clean air and the cigarette smoke makes it worse.

Despite such conditions, I have never seen anyone stopping them. No one from the police or Korail is ever seen. "No Smoking" signs are too small for first-time users to see and are often ignored.

I hope the the authorities make sure that smoking is prevented in such public areas.

I look forward to stations free of cigarette butts, smoke, and spittle.
