&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Domestic violence going strong

Five years have passed since a special law concerning domestic violence was passed in order to protect families from abuse often inflicted by fathers. To this day the Ministry of Gender Equality and many nongovernmental organizations continue to work to uphold that law.
However, a recent news item about a female entertainer being clubbed by her husband shows that not much has changed. Rather, the violence seems to be increasing. I feel most people are still ignorant of the dangers of domestic violence. Females in Korea are still being trampled by men who believe that male dominance and violence are the only answers to disagreements.
Furthermore, Korean people have this ingrained belief that family problems are not subject to intervention. It is a crime to wield violence, be it in a home or anywhere else.
Koreans should also know that children typically follow what their parents show them.
