[LETTERS TO THE EDITOR]In '51, a GI would have gladly left

To Min Sung-Jae: I read your recent interesting article and survey concerning the U.S. troop situation in Korea. I noticed with interest the breakdown by age group.

I wonder if the younger group would have responded in the same way on June 30, l951? Or I wonder if they realize how many of their countrymen had to give what they did for them to be able to take the poll today? Do you? Just give me back 35,000-plus of my good friends and I'll see what we can do about giving these youngsters their wish.

I had the occasion to spend 12 month and 6 days on "vacation" in your country beginning in March 1951, mostly in the east-central front and around the iron triangle. I would certainly have agreed with the younger generation of today if they had wanted to send me home at that time.
