&#91LETTERS TO THE EDITOR&#93Cell phones shatter our fragile peace

A few days ago, I went to the funeral of one of my father’s friends, where the ring of a cell phone was very disruptive.
While the coffin was being lowered amid the sobs of the family of the deceased, a very jumpy melody emanated from someone’s cell phone. Everyone was startled. It was as if a band had struck up a tune.
I see people politely turning off their phones in movie theaters, but others answer the calls with ear-splitting voices. If someone is waiting for an important call in a situation that is not conducive to the ring of a phone and loud chatter, he should remove himself from the area. Even though our country is known as an advanced information technology nation, our etiquette when using cell phones brings us down a couple of notches. Like the slogan says: “Turn it off in an important moment.” We should all acquire the knowledge for the proper use of a cell phone.
