Roh cites a joint team as Winter Games lurePresident Roh Moo-hyun said yesterday that he was considering the question of a joint Olympic team with North Korea in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
“If Pyeongchang, in Gangwon province, is selected as host of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, the North and South will be joint hosts at the event and form a single team there as well,” Mr. Roh said at a press briefing at the Blue House.
Mr. Roh said North Korea has promised to send a group of supporters to the 2003 Daegu Universiade, and has supported the designation of Pyeongchang as the 2010 Winter Olympics host.
A joint hosting of the winter games is an open question, he said. “Although the International Olympic Committee’s regulations do not permit joint hosting, there is a possibility, considering the drastic improvement in North-South relations.”
