Korean Internet users reach new peak

The number of Internet users exceeded 30 million people as of June for the first time in the 10 years since the Internet was commercialized here. The Ministry of Information and Communication said yesterday about 31 million Koreans 6 years of age and above used the Internet at least once a month, according to its survey results. The figure is 68 percent of the national population older than six, up 3 percentage points from last year. The ministry also said that 95 percent of teenagers and those in their 20s surfed the Internet. The users spent 11.5 hours on average per week on the Internet, mainly searching for information, playing online games or using e-mail accounts.
