Prosecutors demand death for serial killer

Prosecutors demanded the death penalty yesterday for Yoo Yeong-cheol, on trial on charges of murdering 21 people.
In response, a calm Mr. Yoo said, “I am thankful for the prosecutors’ request for the death penalty. I will be repenting what I have done until I die.”
Mr. Yoo, 34, was arrested in July. He was quoted by police as saying he killed because he hated wealthy individuals and prostitutes, who made up most of his victims.
“This is the largest serial killing case in Korean history,” the prosecution said. “Mr. Yoo, who killed 21 people without specific cause, voluntarily gave up being a member of the society. Mr. Yoo did not repent for what he has done and said, in court, ‘I wanted to kill more than 100.’”
The verdict will be announced on Dec. 13.
