Seoul is hosting an annual meeting of international sports journalists this week, with the opening ceremony yesterday.

The Korean Sports Press Union is the organizer of the 74th International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Congress, which will go on until Friday at COEX in southern Seoul. AIPS said 263 delegates from 126 nations will be on hand.

Choung Byoung-gug, Korea’s minister of culture, sports and tourism, hosted a welcome reception yesterday.

Kim Yu-na, Korea’s figure skating starlet, made an appearance at the opening ceremony and gave a brief speech.

Pyeongchang, a Korean alpine town in Gangwon bidding for the 2018 Winter Olympics, will also present its case before the journalist congress.

Top international sports organizations, including the IOC and FIFA, have also sent their representatives to the congress.
