Lang says she will leave husbandPop artist Nancy Lang told news outlet Edaily on Wednesday that she is breaking up with her husband Wang Jinjin.
“The reason I decided to break up with him was because I was continuously assaulted and verbally abused by him,” Lang said. “I sincerely believed in him despite all the criticisms from the public, but all I received in return was increasing loan interests and insecurity. But money was not the main reason for breaking up.”
Before she met Wang last year, Lang was planning to marry her ex-boyfriend.
“I was planning to marry [my ex-boyfriend] until I found out that he already had a wife and a daughter. I was facing the worst period in my life until I met Wang,” Lang said. “I knew about his misconducts in his past, but I still thought that he was a warm-hearted person. I believed in him. And now, it’s over.”
Wang released a statement in response.
“She has been avoiding me after listening to the rumors from her friends,” he said. “I wanted to tell her that they were misunderstandings.”
Wang also added a message for Lang, saying, “I’m sorry that I cannot protect you from now on. Sorry for causing trouble.”
Lang’s interview came just a day after Wang was hospitalized after reportedly attempting to commit suicide. A friend found him unconscious on the bathroom floor after they returned to his house after dinner.
Lang and Wang’s relationship has been controversial since the start. After the couple married last December, local news outlet Dispatch reported that Wang had spent time in prison on charges of rape and robbery back in 1999 and 2003.
Wang has previously claimed that he is the son of casino company Paradise Group’s CEO, adding that he was born in Macau. Dispatch has countered this explanation, saying that he was born in Korea and only shares a surname with the CEO.
