The Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water), a government company under the Ministry of Environment, hosted a committee meeting of the Asian Water Council (AWC) at the Hangang Regional Head Office and Incheon-Gimpo Regional Office between June 26 and 28.

The AWC was established in 2016 with strong support from the Korean government and K-Water to promote international cooperation on water uses in Asia.

Its members include Unesco, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and companies from countries such as Indonesia, China, Thailand and the Philippines.

In the committee meeting, cooperation methods for AWC’s 2020 Second Asian International Water Week (AIWW) were discussed. AIWW is the largest international water event in Asia, held every three years to share practical solutions to solve Asian water problems.

The committee also discussed its Water Project to tackle water issues in Asian countries. The project includes pilot tests of smart water management in the Denpasar area of Indonesia and an integrated water-management business in Cambodia.

The committee also shared methods to promote the sustainable development of the Asian Water Council, including the introduction of new member organizations and the expansion of international cooperation.

“The Asian Water Council celebrates the third anniversary of its foundation and has grown into a water-related international council that various organizations participate in,” said Lee Hak-su, president of Korea Water Resources Corporation.

“We will do our best to solve global water issues and extend our business abroad based on experience and technology of Korean water management.”
