[Sponsored Report] Hyundai E&C excels in Singapore
The ceremony was attended by Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport Lam Pin Min, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Chief Executive Quah Ley Hoon, Korean Ambassador to Singapore Ahn Young-jip and Hyundai E&C Head of Civil Engineering Park Chan-soo.
The caisson, which plays a critical role in Singapore’s Tuas Finger 3 reclamation project, is a hollow concrete structure in the form of a box used as the foundation of a bridge, breakwater and quay wall.
Hyundai E&C won the 1.2 trillion won ($1.1 billion) Tuas Finger 3 reclamation project from the Singapore Maritime Port Authority (MPA). It acquired a 35-percent stake of the project in the joint venture with Japan’s Penta-Ocean Construction Company and the Netherlands’ Royal Boskalis Westminster. The Tuas Finger 3 project, designed to reclaim 387 hectares of land at Tuas Port in Singapore, is scheduled to be completed by March 2027.
Hyundai E&C’s top-level technology in manufacturing caissons led to the successful Tuas Finger 3 reclamation project bid. The company can effectively prevent the cracking of large structures based on its concrete curing automation system and factory production method, and can shorten the production cycle to 3.5 days for one caisson. Using its own floating dock, a caisson that was manufactured on land can be moved to the sea.
“The Tuas Finger 3 site is a large-scale reclamation project where Singapore’s largest caisson 227 will be constructed and installed,” said a Hyundai E&C official. “We will strengthen our position to win more reclamation projects in Singapore based on our plentiful experience and technical know-how.”
