Two ordered to pay Yoo Sang-moo

Comedian Yoo Sang-moo will receive a total of 1 million won as compensation from two people who wrote offensive comments about him online, according to a decision made by the Seoul Central District Court on Monday.

Yoo originally filed for a civil suit against 10 people who had written unkind comments about him. Out of the 10, two of them had written that the comedian was “trash” when media outlets reported that Yoo was accused of sexual assault in May 2016. The case against the comedian was dropped when he was declared not guilty by the prosecutor.

“I have gone through extreme mental suffering because of the comments made by these people who hurled insults at me online even though they didn’t know me at all,” the comedian said in his explanation for filing the lawsuit.

The court judged that the other commenters will receive compulsory mediation while the two users were ordered to compensate the comedian. While one of the commenters will have to pay 700,000 won, the other will be required to pay 300,000 won.
