Samsung BioLogics gets ISO 27001

Samsung BioLogics received an industry security management certification from a German company specialized in assessments.

It is the first global contract manufacturing organization (CMO) to receive the certification.

The Korean company announced Thursday that it has earned ISO 27001 certification from Frankfurt’s DQS. German Ambassador to Korea Stephan Auer handed over the actual document at the office of Samsung BioLogics in Songdo, Incheon.

Samsung BioLogics said ISO 27001 is the most globally recognized certification in the field of global information security. DQS is a German certification body that provides assessment services for more than 100 internationally recognized standards.

As a CMO, Samsung BioLogics receives all information on products it will manufacture from clients before starting any production. The transfers include highly sensitive and detailed information on products being developed and crucial data on the business initiatives of the clients.

Assuring customers that their information is safe is crucial for the success of Samsung BioLogics as a CMO.

Samsung BioLogics said that DQS evaluated the company in 114 categories related to information technology, security and management over four months.

The Korean CMO said the ISO 27001 is the closest to what its clients require in terms of information security, which will help Samsung BioLogics and attract more clients.

In the third quarter, the company achieved an operating profit of 23.61 billion won ($20.18 million), up 125.6 percent from a year earlier, and a significant improvement from second quarter operating loss of 15.43 billion won.
