Getting creative to stop the spread of the coronavirus

People have known for ages that music can do a lot to lift your mood.

Knowing this, musicians and comedians have remade songs or released new ones in response to the coronavirus outbreak, including Korea’s “Baby Shark” song and dance.

“Wash your hands, doo doo doo doo doo,” begins the song released by Pinkfong on YouTube in late March, using the same melody as the original song but with lyrics re-written to teach listeners how to wash their hands.

The song, “Wash Your Hands with Baby Shark,” released on March 21, has been seen by over 9.2 million people as of Monday.

The English version of the original song, “Baby Shark Dance,” released by local educational start-up SmartStudy became the second-most-viewed YouTube video in early March. The video has been watched by over 5 billion viewers as of this week.

The new version of the song has its own dance as well, teaching young children to wash their hands with soap under running water, cover their sneezes and cough into their elbows.

Some users have posted videos of their children singing along to the song and following the dance moves.

As the coronavirus outbreak ravages many parts of world, many songs are being remade, such as Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” which has been remade into “Coronavirus Rhapsody.”

“Is this a fever, is this just allergies,” go the first lines of the hit song rewritten by American comedian Dana Jay Bein and sung by Adrian Grimes.

The song was released on March 28, after Bein came up with the first few lines when he was “feeling some cold and allergy symptoms,” Bein told NPR earlier this month.

In Uganda, Parliament member and singer Bobi Wine has also released a song to encourage people to keep a social distance. He named it the “Corona Virus Alert.”

“The bad news is that everyone is a potential victim,” Wine sings in the video he released on YouTube on March 25. “But the good news is that everyone is a potential solution.”

The song has gained attention from various media outlets since Wine posted the clip on YouTube. “Please go ahead and use it! It’s not ours anymore but for the world,” he wrote on his Twitter account on March 26, addressing radio stations and television broadcasters.

American singer Gloria Gaynor also took part in the movement, uploading a video on TikTok of her lip-synching to her hit song “I Will Survive” while washing her hands for 20 seconds in running water. The video went viral, with over 770,000 viewers as of Monday.

Wash your hands, doo doo doo doo doo/ Grab some soap, doo doo doo doo doo(손을 씻어요 뚜 루루 뚜루/ 비누를 쥐어요 뚜 루루 뚜루)

(Wash Your Hands with Baby Shark)이 인기 고공행진을 벌이고 있다.

이후엔 Cover your sneeze(재채기 할 땐 가리고) Cough into your elbow(기침은 옷 소매에) 등 기초 예절을 덧붙인다.
