Taiwan chief to meet with Kim Young-sam

Former Korean President Kim Young-sam will meet with President Chen Shui-bian and other high-ranking Taiwanese officials during his week-long visit to Taiwan, which begins today.
Mr. Kim’s trip was announced earlier this month, but at that time, no official meetings were mentioned. He had said that a private group, which he did not identify, had invited him.
Mr. Kim is making the trip despite the Chinese government’s requests that he not do so. Taiwan’s periodic assertions of independence from China have made it an extremely sensitive subject for Beijing.
Mr. Kim, whose schedule will also include a speech to students at National Chengchi University, will be accompanied by his wife and by former legislators, including Kim Myung-yoon, Chung Jey-moon and Park Chong-ung.
