Veteran director quits SBS drama

Veteran producer Jung Eul-young has announced that, due to health issues, he will no longer be working with famed drama writer Kim Soo-hyun.

The two had worked together for nearly 18 years, co-creating hits such as “Fireworks,” “Who’s My Love” and “Men of the Bathhouse.” In the last 10 years, Jung had solely worked with Kim.

The two had been slated to work together again on the SBS weekend drama “Thrice Married Woman” until Jung’s health issues flared up.

“Jung’s health has reportedly been deteriorating, and he has decided not to direct the new drama as it will start in November and will last until next year,” said an official at SBS, according to local media reports.

The drama has been in the news frequently in recent weeks, in part because of difficulties finalizing the cast. Top celebrities Han Ga-in and Kim Sa-rang were both reportedly in consideration for a lead role, but yesterday it was confirmed by the Ilgan Sports that the role is going to E Ji-ah. Officials at the broadcaster said it has not been decided who will replace Jung.
