Kim Soo-hyun wins at drama festival

This year’s Korea Drama Awards, held in conjunction with the Korea Drama Festival, kicked off yesterday in Jinju, South Gyeongsang, with Kim Soo-hyun bestowed with the highest honor for a local actor or actress.

Kim, 26, won the Grand Award for Performance. He played the male lead in “My Love From the Star,” a mega-hit SBS drama about an alien landing on Earth during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) that later transcends eras and falls in love with an actress.

The Best Production Award was given to “My Love From the Star,” and another KBS series “Jeong Do-jeon” was awarded for best script. “Reply, 1994,” which aired on cable channel tvN, won for best director.

Best male performance was taken by Kim Jae-joong for his lead role in the MBC drama “Triangle,” with the best female performance given to Oh Yeon-seo, who acted in “Jang Bo-ri is Here!” on MBC.

Best new male actor and best new female actor were given to Ahn Jae-hyeon and Do-hee, respectively.

Do-hee and Kim Sung-kyun’s romance in “Reply, 1994” won them the Best Couple Award, and actor Shin Sung-rok was acknowledged as the hottest star of the year.

Actress prodigy Kim Ji-young achieved best child performance, and diva Ailee took home the Best OST Award for singing the theme song for “Triangle.”
