Player in focus: Jim Adduci (Lotte Giants)

In the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season is the gold standard for a player who has both power and speed. In the league’s history, 39 players have accomplished the feat, but not of them were with the Lotte Giants.

That 34-year drought was finally broken by their 30-year-old import, Jim Adduci, who swiped second base in the second inning of a game against the KT Wiz in Suwon, Gyeonggi, on Sunday. That steal put him in the “20/20 club.” The former Texas Ranger was also the sixth foreign player to reach the plateau, joining Jay Davis, Manny Martinez, Doug Clark, Yamaico Navarro and Eric Thames.

Before Adduci dusted himself off at second base two days ago, Jeon Jun-woo was the most recent Giant to come close to the 20/20 mark. Now doing his military service playing for the national police club, Jeon had 19 home runs and 16 stolen bases for the Giants in 2010.

Adduci has been a utility player for the Giants in his first season in the KBO League, appearing at several different positions. He started the season as the club’s leadoff hitter, but has recently been batting cleanup. He is hitting .306 with 73 RBIs in 86 games.
