Park Jae-sang re-signs deal to stay with SK Wyverns

Free agent outfielder Park Jae-sang is staying with his original club, the SK Wyverns, after signing a two-year contract worth 550 million won. ($479,000).

The Wyverns on Monday said that Park, 33, signed a one-year deal that gives him a 200 million won salary with a 50 million won option depending on his performance. If he performs well, the lefty hitter can get a 250 million won salary with a 50 million won option in 2016.

Park has been with the Wyverns since 2001, playing 993 games.

Meanwhile, the Wyverns said they have selected Lotte Giants pitcher Kim Seung-hoi as compensation for sending their free agent pitcher Yun Kil-hyoun to the Giants. Kim, 34, went 7-3 with a 6.24 ERA in 39 games. In the KBO, teams that sign free agents from other teams need to compensate the players’ original team with either cash or another player.

KT Wiz says its “Sniper” will end his 20-year KBO career

KT Wiz announced on Monday that outfielder Jang Sung-ho has decided to retire.

The 38-year-old began his pro career with the Haitai Tigers (now Kia Tigers) in 1996 and played with the Lotte Giants and Hanwha Eagles before playing with the Wiz this year.

Jang, whose nickname is “Sniper” after his hitting skills, ends his career with a .296 batting average, 221 home runs and 1,043 RBIs in 2,064 games. Jang, the batting champion in 2002, has 2,100 hits in 7,084 at-bats, which is the second highest in KBO history.

Bubba Watson impresses in his 2nd win of the season

NASSAU, Bahamas - Bubba Watson wasn’t even planning to play in the Hero World Challenge, but he left no doubt Sunday who was going to win.

With two quick birdies, Watson was never seriously challenged at the Albany Golf Club and sailed home to a 6-under 66 for a three-shot victory over Patrick Reed.

Watson didn’t make a bogey all weekend until the final hole, and by then it didn’t matter except in the record book. He finished at 25-under 263, missing by one shot the tournament record set last year by Jordan Spieth at Isleworth.

It was the second victory this year for Watson, who will finish the year at No. 4 in the world.

Watson’s year is not finished. He was headed to New York on Sunday night to catch a flight to Asia for the Thailand Open.

Marc Leishman takes home his first European Tour title

SUN CITY, South Africa - Marc Leishman picked up his maiden European Tour title on Sunday with a six-stroke victory at the Nedbank Challenge.

The Australian, who started the final round ahead of Henrik Stenson by one shot, carded a 5-under 67 to finish on 19-under 269. He won $1.25 million. AP
