Samsung Lions sign another contract with Darin Ruf

The Samsung Lions signed another one-year contract with Darin Ruf at $1.7 million on Wednesday.

Ruf’s contract is the same as the previous year, but this year’s deal offers him more incentives. Of the $1.7 million, Ruf will receive $100,000 as signing bonus, $1.3 million as annual income and $300,000 as incentives.

By signing another year with the Lions, Ruf will be playing his third season. This is the first time the Lions have kept a foreign player for three seasons.

Ruf made his KBO debut in the 2017 season and made a direct impact to the Lions’ batting lineup. Ruf finished with a .315 batting average with 31 home runs and 124 RBIs in 134 games.

Throughout the 2018 season, Ruf fulfilled his role as the Lions’ cleanup hitter, finishing with a .330 batting average with 33 home runs and 125 RBIs in 137 games.

By re-signing Ruf, the Lions have filled their foreign player roster spots as they previously signed pitchers Justin Haley and Deck McGuire.
