If Chinese people think of a pie, it’s probably a Choco Pie

For the fourth year in a row, Orion’s iconic Choco Pie took the top spot in its segment on China’s brand power index, Orion announced Tuesday.

Choco Pie topped the China Brand Power Index in the pie segment, scoring 654 points out of the full 1,000 points. The index is announced by Chnbrand, China’s brand rating agency.

The snack was evaluated based on customer loyalty, preference and recognition. A total of 8,700 brands were evaluated on 176 product categories. The higher the evaluation, the more likely the brand will grow through word of mouth, according to Orion.

Since Choco Pie was unveiled in China in 1993, it has received positive reviews. One major factor for the response is its title. The local name for Choco Pie, Hao Li You, translates into “good friend” in Chinese.

Orion has launched various flavors of the snack in China, ranging from strawberry to matcha.

“We have, once again, confirmed that Choco Pie is the first [snack] Chinese consumers think of when they imagine a pie,” said a spokesperson for Orion.

“We will continue raising [Orion’s] reputation as a global brand from Korea based on its excellence in taste and high quality.”
