[MOON SO-YOUNG]

“The Clove” by Alexander Calder (1898-1976) seen from the two different sides. It is part of the “Picture Plane: Vertical, Flatbed, and the Moving Crescent” exhibition at Hakgojae Gallery in central Seoul. The small black sculpture is one of Calder’s “stabiles” which refer to immobile sculptures compared to the sculptures hanging and moving with the air, called “mobiles,” which the artist created. It is one of Calder’s earliest stabiles. This exhibition, which runs through July 10, features small-sized works by modern and contemporary art masters. A total of 32 works by 12 renowned artists such as Ernst Kirchner, Francois Morellet, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol and David Hockney are on view. They are from the collection of the famous Paris-based art collector Susanne Van Hagen and her son Lawrence Van Hagen, who is a young London-based art advisor.
