Kang Ji-hwan arrested by police

Actor Kang Ji-hwan, 42, was arrested under the charge of quasi-rape on Friday evening. The decision was made by Suwon District Court judge Han Sung-jin.

Korean law describes the crime of “quasi-rape” as sexual intercourse or “an indecent act on another by taking advantage of one’s condition of unconsciousness or inability to resist.”

The judge provided police with an arrest warrant for the reason that “there may be possibility of eradicating evidence.”

Kang told the press after an interrogation held earlier in the day that he was “sorry to have caused trouble.”

“I’ve heard that the victims were also hurt [emotionally] through the comments that followed [media reports],” Kang also said. “I’m so sorry [to them] for getting them into this predicament.”

The police filed for an arrest warrant on Thursday, as the two victims’ testimonies coincided with one another, which heightened the credibility that the actor committed the crime.

Kang was taken into custody on Tuesday evening under suspicions of sexually assaulting and groping two employees from his agency, Huayi Brothers Korea, at his residence in Gwangju, Gyeonggi.
