EBS film fest reveals prize winnersThe 16th EBS International Documentary Film Festival announced the winners of the annual movie event at its closing ceremony on Sunday evening.
Macedonian film “Honeyland,” directed by Ljubomir Stefanov and Tamara Kotevska took home the Festival Choice Grand Prix Award.
“The film shines light on one human’s life from various perspectives,” said the judges of the festival. “The high-quality storytelling and beautiful cinematography [especially stood out].”
The documentary revolves around a relationship between a middle-aged woman who makes a living by gathering wild honey in a remote village in Macedonia and her neighbor. The film captures breathtaking scenes of the natural landscapes in the Balkan Peninsula, untouched by human civilization and the residents living there.
Director Agostino Ferrente’s “Selfie” received the Documentary Goyang Award and the Special Jury Award went to “Leftover Women” directors Shosh Shlam and Hila Medalia.
The closing ceremony was held at EBS Space Hall in Ilsan, Gyeonggi.
The festival, held under the theme of “Documentary, Lighting the World!” was held from Aug. 17 to 25 and featured 73 documentaries from 34 countries.
