MBC to reveal alleged killer’s faceMBC will reveal the face of the 56-year-old convict who is presumed to be the serial killer who raped and murdered 10 women in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, in the late 1980s on the TV program “True Story of Exploration” today.
The police are currently focused on the convict, surnamed Lee, in their investigation into a 33 year-old cold case. Technology has enabled police to analyze DNA evidence extracted from the victims’ clothing. Three of the samples found in the clothes matched Lee’s DNA.
Currently, Lee is serving a life sentence in the Busan Penitentiary for a different murder he committed in 1994, when he raped and killed his wife’s sister.
For the show, reporters interviewed Lee’s childhood friends, neighbors and his mother to find out how Lee is remembered in his hometown of Cheongju, North Chungcheong. Lee’s mother argues that her “son could not have committed the murders. Killing his wife’s sister was an accident.”
The program will air at 10:05 p.m.
