Concert will honor Shin Hae-chul

A concert will be held on Oct. 27 to commemorate five years since singer-songwriter Shin Hae-chul passed away, concert organizer PA Entertainment announced on Tuesday.

According to the company, the concert, titled “Siwol,” will be held at the Nodeul Island Live House in Yongsan, central Seoul, and feature musicians and performers who were close to Shin before his death.

Shin made his debut in 1988 with “To You” and released his first official album in 1990. After that, a series of hits such as “Don’t Look So Sad,” “Jazz Cafe” and “Welcome to the Real World” made him the biggest musician of the 90s.

He was praised for his experimental sounds and lyrics that touched on social issues that could sometimes be deemed controversial.

Shin’s untimely death came on Oct. 27, 2014, days after he received surgery for intestinal stenosis. He was admitted to the hospital for cardiac arrest and died of brain damage due to hypoxic ischemia.

His surviving family released two parts of Shin’s album “Ghost Touch” last December and in May to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his debut.

“The musicians will be participating without pay, out of their love and condolences for Shin Hae-chul,” the organizer said.

“It will be a time and chance for fans to listen to his music and find comfort.”

Tickets can be purchased through Interpark and Yes24.
