Following President Moon Jae-in’s instruction, the Ministry of Education (MOE) suddenly announced that all elite high schools across the country — autonomous schools, foreign language schools and international schools — will lose their special status and become ordinary private schools beginning in 2025. The plan — which affects students starting with current elementary 4th graders — means a return to the days of the standardization of high schools in 1974.
