Nah Youn-sun honored by France

Nah Youn-sun will become the first Korean vocalist to receive the Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Officer of Order of Arts and Letters) from France, one of the highest honors that can be given to an artist by the country.
Her concert promoter Nplug announced Friday that Nah has been selected to receive the French Ministry of Culture’s prestigious title on Nov. 28 for her “significant contribution to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance.”
Nah previously received the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2009, the lowest out of three grades in the Order of Arts and Letters. The highest grade is Commandeur, or Commander, followed by Officier.
Nah made her debut in 1994 through the local musical “Subway Line 1.” She headed to Paris to learn French music and jazz the following year and has since performed at major venues across the world, including at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Some of the awards she picked up along the way include the Echo Jazz Award in Germany and the Jazz Vocal Award from the Académie du Jazz in France.
The singer is currently performing in Europe as part of a world tour following the release of her album “Immersion.” Nah will hold shows in 11 major Korean cities including Jeju, Busan and Seoul beginning on Dec. 12, meeting Korean fans for the first time in two years.
