Park Hae-jin honored by firefighters

Actor Park Hae-jin will be receiving an award from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for his contributions to helping Korea’s National Fire Agency next month, his management agency Mountain Movement announced on Tuesday.

Park volunteered to help victims of the forest fire that hit Gangwon earlier this year. He has also been actively involved in raising awareness about public safety by working with the International Fire & Safety Expo Korea and air ambulances.

Park started getting involved with the National Fire Agency in 2016 after meeting a fan whose father was a firefighter. Soon after, he volunteered to model for the firefighters’ calendars to attract funds and filmed a promotional video about fire safety without receiving any payment.

For his efforts, Park was appointed an honorary fireman by the National Fire Agency on Nov. 9.

“I’m happy to receive the award, even though I just wanted to help out after finding out about the difficult working conditions and inner trauma that firefighters face,” Park said in anticipation of receiving the ministry’s award.

“I hope we can give greater love and attention to our firefighters, who work day and night for the safety of the people.”

Park is set to star alongside Cho Bo-ah in the upcoming drama “Secret,” where he will play the role of an emergency rescue team member.
