CJ ENM meets with X1 members

CJ ENM has met with the members of project band X1 to discuss its future strategy, the entertainment conglomerate said on Wednesday.

“It is true that we met with X1 recently,” CJ ENM said. “We are also keeping in touch with each member’s entertainment agencies.”

CJ ENM is the company that owns channel Mnet, which aired four seasons of the “Produce” audition series beginning in 2016.

While the show’s first two groups, I.O.I and Wanna One, turned out to be huge successes, the results of the fourth season - which aired this summer - were questioned by fans of the show and the producers were caught rigging votes.

Recently, producers Kim Yong-bum and Ahn Joon-young were handed over to prosecutors for fabricating the show’s vote results and possibly even taking bribes from entertainment agencies in the process. Due to the ongoing scandal, the project groups from the third and fourth seasons, IZ*ONE and X1, have remained quiet and are not actively performing.

Police confirmed that the voting results were fabricated not only in the latest season, but for all seasons of the show, and fans are demanding that the groups disband.

“We will be making a very careful decision after talking it through with the members of the groups and their agencies,” CJ ENM said.

Girl group IZ*ONE, who debuted after the show’s third season in 2018, has indefinitely postponed the release of their album and canceled their TV appearances, as well as the release of their film “Eyes on Me: The Movie” that was scheduled to hit theatres on Nov. 15.
