BTS is Variety’s Group of the Year

BTS has been named Group of the Year for the third annual Hitmakers Brunch hosted by Variety magazine.

The list of Variety’s 2019 honorees was announced on the American magazine’s website on Tuesday.

“The record-breaking septet has solidified their status as global superstars, rounding out one of the largest stadium tours of the year and releasing a string of top-selling singles,” Variety said, citing the reason for its choice.

Billie Eilish was named Hitmaker of the Year, Megan Thee Stallion was named Breakthrough Artist, Swae Lee will be given the Crossover Award and singer Ellie Goulding will be honored with the Decade Award

BTS has had a monumental 2019, nabbing two statues at the Billboard Music Awards in May, a win at the Radio Disney Music Awards in June, four honors at the Teen Choice Awards and two awards at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.

The group also took home three awards at the MTV Europe Music Award earlier this month - Best Group, Best Live and Biggest Fans.

Variety’s brunch will take place on Dec. 7.
