Tastes of Italy entice bids at auction for homeless
The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, or Itcck, brought chef Alfredo Russo of restaurant Dolce Stil Novo Alla Reggia in Turin, Italy, to make dinner at a charity auction it hosted to help Anna’s House, which is run by Father Vincenzo Bordo, who has been living in Korea for about 30 years.
Itcck, together with its partners, offered trips around Italy at an auction at the Conrad Seoul in Yeouido, western Seoul, on Friday, alongside a coffee machine from illy, leather goods from Max Mara and skin care products from Santa Maria Novella, to raise money for the homeless.
It also invited a magician and singers to celebrate the ties between Korea and Italy.
Bordo, who asserted that any kind of help is meaningful, said that such a year-end event can be a chance to raise awareness about those in need. He is open to take any monetary support as well as in-person help to guide youngsters at Anna’s House to get better educated.
To provide the taste of Italy, especially from the northern region, Russo brought a variety of ingredients often used around Turin including truffles.
“I wanted people to know more about Italian cuisine [and] that there is more than just pasta and pizza,” said the chef, adding that keeping the taste simple is the key for him.
“Italian cuisine is more about ingredients than cooking techniques, and a chef’s job is to best deliver the essence of each ingredient.”
