Air New Zealand flying again Incheon-Auckland direct

Air New Zealand last week reinstated a direct service between Incheon and Auckland, New Zealand.

The first flight took off from Auckland Airport bound for Incheon International Airport on Saturday.

Air New Zealand entered the Korean market in 1993 offering a direct service between Incheon and Auckland but pulled out in 1997 following the Asian financial crisis.

It has decided to return to Korea after 22 years as a result of a steady increase in the number of Korean travelers to New Zealand, according to Air New Zealand.

“There are 80,000 Korean visitors to New Zealand every year,” said Jeff McDowall, acting CEO at Air New Zealand at a press event held at the Four Seasons Hotel in central Seoul on Monday. “I think we can grow that number significantly. We already see more people going to New Zealand than there are flights to carry them.”

McDowall explained Air New Zealand also sees enormous potential to promote Korea to New Zealanders as a holiday destination, citing the “rich culture, history and modern outlook” of Seoul.
