November Ramen Festival

The Timber House, the premium music bar at the Park Hyatt Seoul, presents the November Ramen Festival, a celebration of body- and soul-warming ramen noodle dishes and premium liquors to enjoy during the cold winds of late autumn. The seasonal promotion features a menu of donkatsu, curry, spicy miso, nagasaki and tantanmen ramen dishes, accompanied by beverages including sparkling wine, sake and premium draft beers. Beverages are available in unlimited servings during happy hour, priced at 69,000 won per person ($60), while a la carte menu items are priced at 33,000 won, including tax. The sublime combination of rich homemade broth and chewy noodles offers the perfect, delicious way to beat the cold weather of the approaching winter.

Happy hour brings a choice of one bowl of ramen, accompanied by unlimited servings of alcoholic beverages. Ramen dishes are served with salad garnished with fresh yuja, rice balls filled with chicken, mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce, homemade pickles and pickled ume (green apricots). Meanwhile, refreshing beverages offer the perfect accompaniment to the rich flavors of ramen at a happy hour featuring unlimited servings of The Timber House’s signature sparking wine, sake and premium draft beer, on weekday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Happy hour is priced at 69,000 won per person.

For a leisurely ramen experience at any time of the day, the a la carte menu offers a selection of five ramen dishes, all featuring rich homemade broth with a base of stock made from handpicked ingredients. Donkatsu ramen brings the rich flavors of slowly infused chicken feet and pork leg bones, while curry ramen uses two varieties of Japanese curry to yield irresistibly deep curry aromas. Spicy miso ramen combines miso soybean paste with gochujang chili paste and doubanjiang chili bean sauce and a garnishing of spicy chili tempura, while nagasaki ramen brings together rich beef bone broth and blue crab, seafood and vegetables for a refreshing flavor, and tantanmen noodles are served in a full-bodied sauce of pork and chicken broth, soy sauce and smooth peanut paste. Ramen dishes are priced at 33,000 won each.

The Timber House is a specialist vinyl music bar boasting a collection of more than 2,000 LPs. Professional D.J.s play live sets in a variety of music styles every evening from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday, while a menu of champagnes, wines, cocktails and sakes plus sushi, sashimi, izakaya-style dishes and other Japanese cuisine offers the perfect accompaniment to authentic vinyl sounds.

Park Hyatt Busan’s Lounge presents festive menus for guests to enjoy an afternoon tea set consisting of colorful, lovely desserts as well as exotic beverages that amplify the Christmas atmosphere. This is in celebration of the upcoming Christmas and year-end seasons.

First, the Christmas-themed “Festive Afternoon Tea Set” comes with a colorful configuration of savory and sweet selections, freshly-baked homemade scones with jam, clotted cream and butter. In particular, it offers sweet selections such as reindeer chocolate mousse cake, Christmas candle cake, Christmas tree chocolate mousse, vanilla custard Santa donuts, Christmas gift butter cookies and even a savory array of shrimp mini burgers, smoked salmon cucumber sandwiches, chicken puffs and seasonal mushroom tarts to make things more enjoyable. The “Festive Afternoon Tea Set” is available from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily, priced at 70,000 won for two people.

In addition, it will prepare a wide variety of unique Festive Season beverages that feature the colors of the Lounge. These include a Christmas frappe with rich vanilla flavors and fresh strawberry puree, a gingerbread latte with the sweet taste of cute gingerbread cookies, salt caramel choco with deep dark chocolate and savory fresh salt caramel cream, a refreshing virgin Christmas mojito featuring pomegranate puree and lime, and a white Christmas mojito, a white Christmas expression with plain yogurt based on rum and Korean traditional liquor Maximo. The festive season beverages will be available from 10 a.m. to midnight, starting at 17,500 won (including tax).

Fall for Applicants

COEX Aquarium, southern Seoul

To support those applying to college this year, COEX Aquarium is offering a 50 percent discount to all those with an identification card that shows that they took the College Scholastic Aptitude Test (CSAT) this year or a receipt that proves that they applied for college through early action admissions. It doesn’t matter whether you are currently a student or not. The CSAT test was held on Nov. 14. A full-priced ticket costs 28,000 won.

The first 2,020 visitors will also get a special gift.

For middle and high school students, the aquarium offers a 40 percent discount on tickets to those who bring their school ID card to the aquarium.

Turkey to go

Grand Hilton Seoul, northwestern Seoul

The Grand Hilton Seoul presents “Turkey to go” and the “Thanksgiving gala Dinner” as to-go products with roasted turkey cooked by hotel chefs ahead of American Thanksgiving in November. Roasted turkey will be sold until Dec. 31 at the premium bakery, Alpine Deli, on the hotel’s LL floor. Since the turkey itself is about 6 kilograms (13 pounds), or about 10 times bigger than chicken, the chefs have put a lot of effort into cooking it. The roasted turkey comes with side menu items such as mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, brussels sprouts and stuffing, and it will feed up to eight people. Reservations are required at least two days in advance, and the price is 250,000 won.

In addition, the hotel will hold a Thanksgiving gala dinner on Thursday, Nov. 28. Thanksgiving specialties such as prime rib steak and roast turkey will be served along with over 100 existing buffet items including Korean, Western and Japanese cuisine. In particular, the roast turkey will be served with side menu items, such as mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, giblets and stuffing, and a live cutting station will be provided as well. Moreover, a glass of red wine and white wine are added to make an even more enjoyable Thanksgiving. The price is 100,000 won.
