Korean Air will share some profit with travel agencies

Korean Air will share 3 percent of its profits from Japan routes with 800 travel agency partners nationwide, the airline said Thursday.

The airline will make the transfers monthly starting from Jan. 28. The program, which will run through March 31, is designed to help small- and medium-sized firms, it said in a statement.

Korean Air said it hopes the contribution would help travel agencies suffering from a reduced number of travelers that choose to go abroad using the services of a travel agency.

It is the first time for Korean Air to directly transfer a portion of its profits to travel agencies.

The decision is meaningful in that Korean Air is also suffering from reduced profit, added the airline.
