Police investigating a massive personal data breach at Coupang have secured records from the company’s key management system, software that encrypts data and issues credentials for user access.
CEO of Seattle-based Coupang Kim Bom submitted a written explanation to the National Assembly regarding his absence from a parliamentary hearing on the e-commerce company’s recent data breach, citing scheduling conflicts.
Coupang CEO Park Dae-jun said on Tuesday that he will “take full responsibility and do everything possible to resolve the issue” after the personal information of 33.7 million customers was leaked in a recent hack.
Kim Bom has resigned as the chairman of the board and as a registered director of Coupang Corp, the wholly-owned Korean subsidiary of New York-listed and Delaware-incorporated Coupang Inc.
Coupang was designated as a “large business group” by the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) on Thursday, subjecting the U.S. company to a wide range of additional regulations.
Kim Bom, the founder of Coupang, has resigned as the chief executive officer of the company and has been named chairman. He has also lost the title of representative director.
