Korea has officially become a super-aged society, with over 10.2 million people aged 65 or older, accounting for 20 percent of the total population.
18,948 newborns were born in August this year, down 2,798 babies, or 12.8 percent, compared to August last year. This is the largest decline in 2 years and 9 months.
Sixty percent of Koreans aged between 55 and 79 are working, with over 9.3 million in the labor market, posing as the potential solution to the country's shrinking labor force.
