The number of newly recruited elementary and middle school teachers will be slashed by more than a quarter over the next four years in response to the country’s shrinking student population, the Ministry of Education said Monday.
Korea posted its 10th consecutive monthly current account surplus, with the balance reported by the central bank a positive $8.03 billion in February.
To encourage people to have babies, the government will pay monthly allowances of 300,000 won ($274) for every newborn and 1-year-old starting in 2022 — which will be raised to 500,000 won in 2025.
