Teenagers under 18 cannot Work in Drinking Establishments

The Government plans to legislate a law which prevents teenagers under the age of 18 from working in liquor service jobs. The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) announced that the age limit for workplaces including cafes, restaurants, game arcades, and casinos will change from 14 to 18 according to a proposal of International Labor Organization.
According to the new law, if somebody in the prescribed businesses hires teenagers under 18, he or she will be punished by not more than one million won in fines or not longer than a year imprisonment. Furthermore, the new law fortifies the punishment of unauthorized adoption agencies. If illegal agencies mediate buying and selling infants, they will be punished by not more than five million won in fines or not longer than threes year imprisonment.
Any person who makes children prostitutes will be punished by not longer than 10 years imprisonment and not more than 20 million won fines. The revised law will be come into effect on January 1 1999, if the law passes through the National Assembly.
