FSC Opposed to Consortiums

Lee Hun Jae, the chief of the Finalcial Supervisory Commission(FSC) asserted on October 2 that the FSC does not want the five big business groups(chaebol) to form a consortium to exchange their businesses items in a so called 'big deal'.
Lee was invited by the Kwanhoon Press Club and said in his speech, 'The current restructuring between business groups was caused by their payment defaults and over-investments, so they must be prepared to cast aside some major unprofitable businesses. A consortium can bring about favoritism.'
Lee's remarks seem to indicate that the government will not allow monetary support to those businesses who refuse to have majority ownership and a unified management in the business exchange.
Regarding the banking system, Lee commented, 'The reform of banks should be based upon free competition and the involvement of stockholders' approval.'
