PM Kim Retreats from AMF Proposal
Prime Minister Kim Jong Pil, who proposed starting an AMF(Asian Monetary Fund) during his recent visit to Japan, had to explain himself to President Kim Dae Jung on December 1.Prime Minister Kim reportedly explained that the AMF is a long term project which should be carefully scrutinized.
Regarding his remarks on Japan's role in leading Asia, he explained that Japan should play a key role in overcoming the ongoing Asian economic crisis.
PM Kim also gave a briefing on the prime minister talks he had with his Japanese counterpart Keizo Obuchi.
Prior to this, the prime minister said at a press conference on November 30 that he just mentioned 'a fundamental idea lightly' and it is just 'a research task'.
His remarks on the AMF caused a stir both at home and abroad.
