Death Penalty Awaits Those Selling Drugs to Juveniles

The sentence for criminals convicted of selling illegal drugs to anyone under the age of 18 could be changed to death.
The Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Health and Welfare brought a revised bill as part of its overall drug management program to the National Assembly. The bill proposes stiffer sentencing for drug dealers, and if the bill passes through the Assembly, as expected, it will go into effect in July 1999.
The revision states that criminals who sell or inject drugs including cocaine, marijuana, and heroin to juveniles will face the death penalty. Other sentencing options like life imprisonment, or more than 10 years imprisonment will remain depending on the nature of the conviction.
The revision also states that those convicted of dealing drugs to adults will be sentenced from a minimum of five years imprisonment to a maximum of life imprisonment.
