Political Deadlock Tightens its Grip on Assembly

The political deadlock between the ruling and opposition parties shows no signs of abating. The ruling National Congress for New Politics(NCNP) and the United Liberal Democrats(ULD) passed bills through the legislature by themselves without the opposition party's presence.
On January 8, Cho Se Hyong, the acting president of the NCNP proposed a dialogue with the opposition party. He said, 'I can meet Lee Hoi Chang, the president of the opposition Grand National Party(GNP), in order to solve the current deadlock.' He continued, 'We will make every effort possible to hold hearings in cooperation with the GNP.'
The GNP plans to continue fighting the ruling coalition until President Kim apologizes for the illegal investigations by the Agency for National Security Planning.
Lee, the GNP president, rejected Cho's proposal by saying, 'Only President Kim can solve this deadlock.'
