Shim Finally Sacked

Shim Jae Ryoon, the former head of the Taegu High Prosecutor's Office, who publicly called for the resignation of Prosecutor-General Kim Tae Joung, was recommended for dismissal by a displinary committee on February 3.
After a four-hour discussion, the seven-member committee headed by Justice Minister Park Sang Chun, reached a ruling.
A ministry official said, 'The committee unanimously decided on the harshest penalty for Shim because he injured the prestige of the prosecutor's office by publicly denouncing the prosecutors' leadership.'
Regarding this decision, Shim commented, 'While the bad remains, the good goes away.'
If this decision is approved by President Kim Dae Jung, Shim will be deprived of his status as a prosecutor. He will only be the third prosecutor to be dismissed from office in Korean history.
Earlier in the day, Prosecutor-General Kim called for stern punishment in his motion to the disciplinary committee that stated, 'He was disobedient when he disregarded higher orders and left his post without permission which ultimately damaged prosecutors' reputation and dignity.'
Shim, however, claimed that the announcement from the Supreme Prosecutor's Office was wrong and stated the charge he faces is not based upon clear evidence.
